The Ionian Sea Port System Authority’s new Three-Year Operational Plan for 2026-2028 has been approved.

TARANTO, 17 MARCH 2026 - Following the favourable opinion of the Body for the Partnership of Sea Resources, the Management Committee of the Ionian Sea Port System Authority (AdSPMI) today approved, by Resolution no. 1/2026, the new Three-Year Operational Plan (Piano Operativo Triennale, POT) for 2026-2028. This document constitutes the strategic, organisational and operational planning tool provided for in Article 9, paragraph 5, lett. b) of Italian Law 84/94

The POT sets out the new strategic direction for the Port of Taranto, as outlined by Chairman Giovanni Gugliotti following his appointment as head of AdSPMI. The plan builds on the findings of a wide-ranging stakeholder engagement process that involved the entire port cluster, from the Sea Port System Authority’s senior management to the Body for the Partnership of Sea Resources, local authorities, port operators and the network of public and private stakeholders in the region.

The POT focuses on sustainability, innovation and the diversification of transport flows through four ambitious yet practical objectives: the green transition, transport development and promotion, the digital transition, and governance and cooperation. These come together in an implementation roadmap designed to attract shipping traffic and investment, revitalising Taranto’s role in the Mediterranean, strengthening the port system and generating positive benefits in terms of innovation and employment. It was also useful to draw up a plan for flagship projects for the three-year period 2026-2028, based on investment priorities and the potential impact not only on the local and regional economy but also on the national port system.

Top priority must be given to the completion of renewable energy infrastructure, the planning of dedicated areas and the diversification of logistics and industry, in line with government policies that designate Taranto as a national hub for the sector.

This document was produced thanks to the fruitful collaboration between the organisation as a whole and representatives from ILP Consulting, with the support of an international team comprising engineers from Haskoning, a global leader in the offshore wind sector.
