PORT OF TARANTO, 9 October 2025 – This morning, the Port of Taranto welcomed a French delegation coordinated by the Embassy of France – Business France Italy. The delegation comprised 11 institutional representatives and companies from the Pays de la Loire region, including the Port of Saint-Nazaire and Chantiers de l’Atlantique. The delegation, led by the Vice-President of the region, Claire Hugues, selected Taranto to explore opportunities in the offshore wind sector in the Ionian area.
The visit provided a valuable occasion to strengthen the international relations of the Port Network Authority of the Ionian Sea (AdSP) in the field of energy transition and renewable sources, a sector which, thanks in part to the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security (MASE) Decree – recently endorsed by the Court of Auditors – now represents a transformative opportunity for the Port of Taranto, designated as a national strategic hub for offshore wind.
The visit marked the final stage of a mission in Italy undertaken by the French delegation on the occasion of the “Offshore Wind Revolution” event held yesterday in Palermo, in which the AdSP of the Ionian Sea also participated, engaging with institutions and companies from countries including the Netherlands, Norway, and Denmark, forming a strategic international network for the future development of offshore wind in the Mediterranean.
Giovanni Gugliotti, Extraordinary Commissioner of the AdSP of the Ionian Sea, commented:
“The visit of the French delegation has confirmed the importance of international relations in promoting the sustainable development of the Port of Taranto, particularly in the offshore wind sector and the energy transition. We will continue to work to strengthen these synergies and to affirm the national strategic role of our port”.

The day included a guided tour of the port and meetings with leading local players, including Vestas Blades and Renexia. Technical and institutional meetings continued at the headquarters of the AdSP of the Ionian Sea with a business-matching event, attended by a delegation from the Apulia Region, the main local institutions, and companies operating in various sectors connected to the Port of Taranto: from logistics to cargo handling, and from green energy to marine research.
The event offered a productive opportunity to exchange experiences and foster networking, as well as to create new opportunities for international collaboration between French and local companies.
